As demand for cyber security professionals in the HK and worldwide continues to surge, this course will prepare you for the challenge of keeping IT environments safe and secure in a world where data is constantly under attack. The MSc Cyber Security course gives you a broad understanding of the latest practices and techniques for cyber security systems development and operations.

You will be able to analyse the legal, social, ethical and professional issues involved in the human aspects of cyber security and be guided by the adoption of appropriate professional, ethical and legal practices. The course is particularly designed to tackle industry needs and job market challenges and produces informed graduates who are suitably equipped to thrive.

Upon graduation, you will have the critical skills and techniques essential for security-related jobs/roles in a rapidly evolving and diverse environment to appropriately solve typical cyber security problems.

Graduation Requirements

Students are required to normally enrol and follow the modules in the programme until the completion of the award.

Minimum Entry Requirement
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a computing discipline; or
  • A Bachelor’s degree in business or an engineering degree with a significant level of computing component (e.g., Information Systems, Business Information Technology, Business Computing and Data Analytics, Business Computing Applications, Computer Engineering, Electronic and Computer Engineering, and Mathematics and Information Engineering, etc.); or
  • Any other equivalent/related qualifications to a Bachelor’s degree recognized by the home institution (e.g., Level 6 BTECs, Level 6 award at UK such as Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Level 6 Vocational Qualifications).
    Remarks:
  • For applicants who hold an honours Bachelor’s degree, a lower-second classification or above is required.
  • The mapping of the significance level of the computing component would be conducted by the Course leader of the home institution.
Language Proficiency
  • i) previous programme taught in English, or
  • ii) either IELTS at 6.5 or above, and a minimum of 5.5 for each of the 4 individual components (Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening), TOEFL iBT at score 90 or above, Pearson PTE Academic at score 58 or above, or an equivalent secure English language test
Other admission route
  • Applicants with other qualifications will be considered, subject to an optional admission interview, provided they can demonstrate at least one year of relevant work experience and the ability to benefit fully from the course.
  • Applicants should also fulfill the above English language proficiency requirement.
    Remarks:
  • The Course Leader of the home institution is responsible for assessing and approving non-standard admission. There is no limit on the percentage of non-standard entry for each cohort.
  • Applicants holding computing-related professional certifications such as CCNA/CCISP/CH do not require an interview.
